Quick little update :)

Sorry I've been away for a bit. I'm not going to be able to update much over the next two weeks either, because I'm on vacation in Florida. So, greetings from Disney World, everyone!!

Also I got a video camera as an early Christmas gift! It is a Toshiba S30. I'm really excited to use for the blog. I'm hoping to do some more Get Ready With Me videos, as well as other things.

Happy Holidays, loves!!

Holiday Beauty Wish List

I love Polyvore. It's an amazing site that lets you dream up looks and create fashion and beauty wishlists, and I find it especially useful around the holidays. These are all the products I want to get for myself this Christmas, but if you wanted an easy way to share some of your most wanted items with your loved ones, this is a great way to do it :)

FOTD 10.20.11

Since I went so long without posting, I wanted to show a look I've been wearing a lot this month. It's so of a gold and brown smokey eye, with a little bit of glitter. I love this look, and I think it'd be a great party look!

Also I tweaked the settings on my camera so the colors come out more true to life. :)

FOTD 10.19.11

Ok, so I wanted to make this into another Get Ready With Me post. I recorded the whole process and everything. Then when I tried to edit the videos (cause I separated them into 3 sections) they wouldn't even import into the editor. >:( I'm still getting used to iMovie and just doing anything with video for that matter, but apart from these little mishaps, I find it all fascinating so I might do more later. That is, if I'm even able to make it past the importing stage.

I wore this smokey eye the other day and I really liked how it looked. As usual, my camera really washes out the color, but you get the general idea.

Sugar Skull/Day of the Dead Halloween Look!

Sugar Skulls are a really fun and creative idea for Halloween, and recently I've noticed it's becoming more and more popular. I've seen a lot of makeup looks and tutorials for them, and decided to do my own. I derived a lot of inspiration from Sylvia Ji, a painter who is known for depicting beautiful women often wearing ornate sugar skull makeup.

I wanted to do something slightly different from some that I had been seeing, and used lots of gold glitter. This took me like 3 hours to do, so if you have some time on your hands, try this out. It's a lot of fun.

It's a really dark, smokey, dramatic look and I'm really happy what I came up with. Sorry if they lighting is weird, I was trying to make the best of it

FOTD 9.10.11 / Kimbra Inspired Look / Monthly favorites

So I'm really really sorry that it has taken me a month to post something new. Life kind of got in the way of blogging, but what can you do?

I have a FOTD/inspired look today. I based this look off of Kimbra's new music video "Good Intent". If you don't know who Kimbra is, she is a singer from New Zealand, and she is just precious. I really recommend you all checking out her music. In this video, she is being influenced by the 'saint' and 'sinner' side of her, and she pairs these personalities with a different color dress and lip color. I wanted to do all three personalities, but I couldn't find a lip color to go with one of them.

Last, but not least, I want to share a couple favorites of this past month. I didn't do one for July (naughty), and I still only have 5 items to share with you.

  • Rimmel Stay Matte Translucent Powder- This is super affordable and has proven to be a really good powder. It really does help keep the oil at bay.
  • Physicians Formula Conceal Rx in Green and Fair - I have been experiencing some pretty annoying breakouts this past month and decided to get some heavy duty concealer, and boy, is this some powerful stuff! The tiniest amount will cover exactly what you want to cover, and lasts for 12 hours. I like to use these before my foundation by mixing half a pea sized amount of each and stippling it on in places where I have a lot of redness. I also have found that the Fair version is an amazing dupe for Urban Decay's Primer Potion in Eden! I actually think this works better on me, and I have super oily eyelids.
  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans- I really love this stuff for smokey eyes. It really intensifies a look when it's used as a base, and since it is a creaseless formula, it lasts quite a while.
  • Tweezerman Eyelash curler - I was in desperate need of a new eyelash curler, and I have found this one to be really easy to use. It's about $2 and it curls my lashes without a lot of effort.

Tutorial! How to make your own eyeshadows!!!

I got a couple requests to do a tutorial on how I made my own eyeshadows with the Coastal Scents Mica Pigments. It is actually not difficult to do, and you can apply this technique to just about any loose shadows you have! So let's get started!

FOTD 8.09.11 / Amy Lee Inspired look

So I changed my URL a couple weeks ago and didn't realize until a few days ago that, by doing so, my posts stopped showing up in the dashboard. Opps. I changed it back, and now hopefully you will be able to see this one, as well as the other posts I made last week.

Sorry I don't have a better picture.
Now that we have that out of the way, I have a FOTD post today. It's been a while since I've done a proper FOTD post, but that is mainly because most of the time, when I like a specific look, I stick with it for a while. But today I have a Amy Lee inspired look. She wore this last night for the premiere of Evanescence's new single "What You Want", (which is fantastic, by the way). I've always been a fan of this band and Amy Lee really changed my life because her music always spoke to me, so it's amazing to see them come back after a long hiatus and see them happy and full of energy. It reminded me why I loved Amy Lee and this band. Her look was based of the single's album artwork, which is kind of a gradient of a dark purple and teal. It's colorful, but still smokey and sexy, and I thought it was gorgeous so I had to try it out.

FOTD 7.27.11/ Updated DIY shadows

I redid some of my shadows from my last post. I moved a few of the MAC shadows that I don't really use and replaced them with some of my own. The one previously called Antique Ocean was so poorly pigmented, it was a pain to work with. So I crushed it up and made 4 new shadows: Cinnamon, Plume Rose, Midnight, and Silver Charcoal. I'm so pleased with the texture and pigmentation of these shadows. My favorites are Chocolate Mousse, Plum Rose, and Dark Chocolate. I used some of these in a look today! Excuse the fact that I didn't take a full  face picture. I had just jumped out of the shower so my hair was a mess.

Coastal Scents Haul/Pressed shadows!!

I've been familiar with Coastal Scents for years, and I cant believe I had never made an order with them before! I'm not really interested in pre-made palettes, but I was interested in their loose mica pigments and glitter. I bought 4 pigments (Inter Gold Sparks, Chocolate Mousse, Illusion Luxury Gold, and Antique Silver), 3 glitters (Ocean Blue, Tinsle, and Fairy Dust), a Black Oxide powder, and some Cosmetic Microspheres filler powder. I was also sent Ruby Mica Powder as a free sample. All of these are in sample sizes, but you are given more than enough to play with. Now, you can certainly put these into jars and use them loose, but I am a very crafty person, and I decided that I wanted to press mine and put them in my MAC palette, so I also bought 8 26mm pans. I also bought 2 samples of their Undercover HD liquid foundation in ST-01, which I've wanted to try for a few years now. They also sent me a mini kabuki brush, but it's a bit scratchy so I don't know if I'll keep it or not.

I'm kind of mad at myself for not taking pictures of the process, but I guess that since it was my first time trying this, it might be best to do that next time. You can see now what my finished palette now looks like! For some of these, I just took the pigment and pressed them as they were, like the Inter Gold Sparks and the Illusion Luxury Gold. But I bought some of these specifically to make a certain color I have been searching for. I have been looking for a color that is similar to Smut, with a texture like Satin Taupe. I'm happy to say that I accomplished just that by mixing Chocolate Mousse with the Antique Silver, darkening the color with the Black Oxide, then creating the silky texture with the Cosmetic Microspheres. It's just what I wanted! Then I made the one called Antique Ocean buy mixing the Antique Silver with the Ocean Blue Glitter. This one is my least favorite, and I might end up crushing it and making something different. I'll know better once I play with it a bit. To press all of these shadows, I mixed 1 part pure Glycerin to 3 parts Isopropyl Alcohol. Coastal Scents sells a pressing medium, but I already had these ingredients at home.

This is a really fun and affordable way of refreshing your makeup collection. Now that I know how to do it, I probably wont be spending $15 on an eyeshadow. If you think arts and craft projects are fun, or if you're looking for a specific shadow, then you might want to give pressing shadows a try!

NOTD 7.14.11

I never do NOTD posts because I don't ever think my nails are all that spectacular, but I'm really excited about this one! One of my favorite things lately has been sweeping MAC Reflects Transparent Teal Glitter over top of nail polishes. It brings the polishes to whole new level! For this one I used ELF Party Purple, waited for it to dry, dusted the glitter over my nails, and then went over it with a top coat. It reminds me a bit of MAC Formidable or Orly Galaxy Girl, which is great, because I missed out on both of these when they were released.

What do you think of this nail look? Would you try using a glitter over your nail polish?

FOTD 7.11.11 / June Favorites

It's been so long since I did a FOTD like this! I need to quit dropping the ball when it comes to this blog, but life tends to happen.

I love brown smokey eyes, no matter what season or occasion. This has been pretty much my look for the last few weeks. I haven't changed it up too much, but I did add a little something extra just for fun.

Face:
Monistat Chafing Relief Powder Gel
MAC Studio Sculpt in NW15
Maybelline Mineral Power in Fair
Maybelline Highlighter in Light
L'Oreal True Match Power in N1
MAC Harmony Blush (contour)
Nars Laguna Bronzer
Nars Orgasm Blush
Nars Copacabana Illuminator

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden
Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans
Inglot 465 all over lid
MAC Satin Taupe in the center and lower lash line
Inglot 26 in inner corner
Inglot 352 on brow bone
Inglot Gel Liner in 77 on lashline and in waterline
MAC Smut to blend out liner
MAC Reflects Transparent Teal patted over lid (don't know how well it's showing up, though)
Maybelline One by One Mascara

Lips:
Lip balm

Also I just want to catch up on my monthly favorites, even though we are almost halfway through this one. Oppsie. But there aren't many. Also, ignore the fact that MAC Harmony is there, because I used that in last months favorites. Double oppsie.

  • Inglot Palette - These shadows are amazing!!! They are super blendable and pigmented, and the texture is really great. Plus they are cheaper than MAC shadows
  • MAC Smut - This is a really great addition to my MAC Palette. It has replaced Showstopper, which was so dry and hard to work with that I didn't want to use it. They are basically the same color, but Smut has a better texture
  • Inglot Gel Liner - This is my holy grail liner!!! It's so pigmented, glides on beautifully and stays put all day, even on the waterline!

Birthday haul!!

I've been gone for about a week or so. I had my 21st birthday on the 29th! So my family and I went out to dinner and did a little bit of shopping. We went to Potomac Mills in Woodbridge, VA, which is a huuuuge mall, that happened to have a CCO!

I had never been to a CCO before, but I knew that they sell discontinued MAC stuff for a discount so I headed straight back there. I don't have a MAC store near me, or even a MAC counter, so it was really awesome to have some of their stuff that I missed right in front of me. I picked up two eyeshadows. The one on the left is Banshee, which is a rosey brown with silver glitter. It works really nicely as a crease color or on the lid for a subtle look. Then I got Nanogold, which looks like a peachy beige, but actually has a pink shimmer to it. Both are lustre finishes, so they are a bit sheer. They were $10.25.

Then I picked up Reflects Transparent Teal Glitter. Ever since I got my pigment/glitter samples a few months ago, I've been on a glitter kick. This glitter is BEAUTIFUL! It's a bit messy, but I've been using it for all sorts of things lately. I used it on my eyes (MAC says not to use these on the eye area, but I've been very careful with it so far) over eyeshadow, on my cheekbones for a highlight that is a little different from my normal pink or gold, and I even tapped it over my nail polish as it was drying so I have a gorgeous duo-chrome manicure. I got the glitter in the old packaging, and it was $11.50.

Then today I went to Sephora and I picked up Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow in Skinny Jeans. I've been eyeing this product for quite some time. I have been trying to make my NYX Jumbo Pencils to work as a base for my eyeshadows, but I just cant keep it from creasing. I've heard that these stay put all day, and this one is one of their best sellers. It's such a complex shade! The photo just doesn't do it justice. It looks taupe in the jar, and then grey in the swatch, and in person there are flex of olive and gold throughout. I can imagine that no matter what colors I'm using, this shade will make anything pop! I can't wait to do a smokey eye with this.

I'll try to use these in a look sometime soon. I still need to do my favorites (six days in to the new month, naughty!) so that will be coming up as well <3

I've been playing :). These are all over Benefit Skinny Jeans
Left to right: Smut, Blue Brown Pigment, Reflects Antique Gold, and Reflects Transparent Teal

Sister FOTD 6.24.11 Sephora Make Overs!

My sister's best friend Brittnie works at Sephora and needed to be certified to do makeup. So she asked my sister and I if we wanted to be her models. She needed to do a three color look, and an eyeliner look. It was a lot of fun, and I'm glad we got to help her out (she passed, btw!). Plus I got to try out some stuff I had never tried before.

Katie went first for the three color look. I wasn't watching as she was doing her makeup, so I don't remember everything that was used, but I was able to figure out a few things:

ELF Haul 6.15.11

I hope you all have been doing well! This is actually a couple of days late, because I had to be put Photoshop back on to my computer. I really excited for this haul, because I picked up a bunch of stuff from ELF that are brand new to their line of products, as well as one that has been out for a while, but I still hadn't tried it.

First, I bought one or their Studio blushes, which I had never actually tried before. I got the one in Peachy Keen, which a peach color with a slight sheen. I got this one because I wanted to find a shade that would  warm up my skin when I don't feel like using pink. This is a really pretty summery shade.

Next I got two of their new Glitter Glosses. I got the ones in Glam Guava and Crystal Cranberry. Glam Guava was actually sent to me by mistake. I ordered Twinkle Pink, and I sent them an email asking them if something happened. I'm not going to make a big fuss about it, because Glam Guava is a really pretty shade anyway. It's a nice medium peachy pink with gold glitter. The color reminds me of Nymphette by MAC, but Nymphette is a little more peachy and it has shimmer, rather than glitter. Crystal Cranberry is a reddish magenta. These are fairly pigmented, but they don't last very long. You can also feel the glitter on your lips a bit, so if that bugs you, I would skip these. I'm not bothered by it, and I'll probably check out some more shades of these. They also released "Glossy Glosses" right after I had already made my order, (go figure, right?) which are supposed to be like these, but with no glitter. Those might be worth a try.

I bought their Radiance Enhancers in Sunrise and Golden. I've been seeing more and more of their click up highlighting products. Just about every brand has their own version. ELF has three shades. I didn't get the one called Spotlight, because it looked like a pale pink and I already have one like that. Sunrise is a medium beige color. It is a LOT darker than I thought it would be. I thought it would be more pale, so that is a little disappointing, because I don't think it works with my skin tone. Golden is exactly that: a shimmery gold. It's really really pretty. It suits my skin better than Sunrise does. The consistency of these are thicker than my beloved Nars Illuminator. It is nicely pigmented, so a little goes a long way with these.

The thing I think I was most excited about was the new Smudge brush from their Essentials line. ELF has had a "Smudge Sponge" on their site for a long time, but I never got it because I wasn't about to buy something that I normally throw away. I've been back and forth about getting the Sigma version of this, but when I saw that ELF had finally made a $1 dupe for it, I snatched it up. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I do imagine that it's not quite as dense as the Sigma or the MAC versions of this brush. But it's good enough for me, and I'm really liking the results I get from using this. I use it to smudge liner and shadow on the lower lash line.

Let me know if you've tried any of these or if you think you might pick some of these up!

Monthly Favorites: May 2011

There are a lot of products, but since I didn't have a monthly favorites post last month, I guess it's alright. I'm really excited to talk about these things, so lets get right down to it!

  • Nars Orgasm/Laguna Duo - I've had this for almost a year, and have used it almost everyday ever since. I usually alternate between MAC Pinch O' Peach blush and Orgasm. I've been using Orgasm a lot this month, and I use Laguna for an all over bronzed glow.
  • Nars Copacabana Illuminator - I'm in LOVE with this highlighter! It's a gorgeous pale pink shimmer color, and you only need the teensy tiniest bit to highlight your entire face. I use it on my cheekbones, down my nose, on the browbone, on the eyes, on the cupid's bow and on my decollate. It's amazing, and I definitely enocurage you all to try it.
  • MAC Harmony Blush - This is a really great contour color for me. It's about 3-4 shades darker than my skin tone and a nice neutral color.
  • Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer in Fair - I really liked the Instant Age Rewind Concealer, so I was encouraged to try out more of Maybelline's concealers. It's the perfect consistency for the summer. It's a liquid formula so it's nice and light and perfect for the under eye area, while still being opaque enough to cover any blemishes (which I have had plenty of this month. LAME!).
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden - This is a really really great eyeshadow primer. My eyelids are naturally really oily, so a good primer is a necessity. I do have to set it with a powder, and my eyeshadow last for 12+ hours.
  • MAC Reflects Antique Gold Glitter - This glitter is BEAUTIFUL! I either use this as an all over lid color, or just lightly over told of a shadow to liven up any look. It's just beautiful and I will definitely repurchase it.
  • MAC Eyeshadow Quad - I know I got my 15 pan palette this month, since I depotted all my shadows into it, I was able to pick my favorite fun colors (Burmese Beauty, Twinks, which is another monthly favorite, Skintone 2, and Satin Taupe) and bring it along to Florida. I took this and my Physicians Formula Matte Quad, and I had all the shadows I needed for the entire week.
  • Real Techniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman - I've been really impressed with these brushes!! I brought these with my to Florida and I only needed 2-3 extra ones to be set for the week. I like them all, but I feel like these in particular stand out from the rest. I use the Stippling brush for my foundation (since the weather is getting warmer, I want to get in the habit of using less foundation). The Deluxe Crease Brush is perfect for blending, and the Accent Brush is great for smudging as well as lining the eyes. I want to try more of these brushes sometime soon.
  • ELF Angled Contour Brush - I've had this brush for a long time and have usually just been using it for blending on the brow bone. But I have found that it is perfect for my Maybelline Mineral Powder Concealer. It's nice and fluffy and blends the concealer effortlessly.
  • Aerie Superfruit Vitamin Gloss in Coy - This is a really nice color that just adds a little interest to my lips without being too much. It's a sheer peachy beige color, with multicolored micro-glitter. If you have a chance to find these at an Aerie store, pick up a few. I got mine for $2.50.
  • Johnson's Melt Away Stress Lavender and Chamomile Lotion - Lavender and Chamomile is probably my favorite scent combonation ever. I use the body wash, the body oil, the spray and now the lotion. I bought this because I wanted to bring a small tube of something on my trip, and this is a really lovely moisturizer. I'll probably end up getting the full size soon.
What have been your favorites this month?

FOTD 6.3.11

I'm super excited to show you my new Inglot products in action! If you'd like to see my review on these, just click here. Also, I did get my hair cut last week. I had the dead ends cut off, and I now have layers. I'm really pleased with how long it still is, considering there were a lot of dead ends. Forgive the roots, I need to get it touched up.

Face:
Inglot Under Makeup Base (this is a little thicker than the Monistat Chafing Gel I always use. It does feel  really nice, but it's not something I'll run out and get)
MAC Studio Sculpt in NW15 (I tried the YSM Cream Foundation, but it was way too dark for me, and it didn't cover anything. I'll pass on that)
Maybelline Mineral Power Concealer in Light
MAC MSF in Light
Nars Orgasm Blush
MAC Harmony Blush
Nars Laguna Bronzer
Nars Copacabana Illumiator

Eyes:

I'll be posting my May monthly favorites sometime soon (either later today or tomorrow) so look out for that!

Inglot haul!!

First of all sorry I've been MIA for a bit. As I mentioned last time, I went to Florida to work at Disney for a week, which was a lot of fun because my sister came along so I'd work and then meet up with her in the afternoons to play in the parks. So sorry for being a bit lazy and not posting, but I haven't been wearing much makeup.

So the other day I placed an order with Inglot! These are the first Inglot products I've ever used and I am so impressed with the stuff I bought. First, I want to point out the fact that shipping took NO time at all! I ordered early Tuesday morning, and it was at my doorstep Thursday afternoon! So, before I even opened the box I was already impressed with Inglot's efficiency. The products were very well packaged (as you can see in the picture to the left).

Inglot has this amazing system called the Freedom System, which allows you to create your own palettes in all shapes and sizes. You can choose from face powders, blushes, eyeshadows, lip colors, brow powders and waxes.

The one complaint I have about Inglot is that none of their products have names. They are all numerical, and the website does not offer any information on their products. So unless you are actually in an Inglot store (which, given that there are only 5 stores in the US, isn't a likely possibility for me), you need to scour makeup blogs looking for swatches. It took me a couple days to finally decide what I wanted to get. But anyway, I bought 5 eyeshadows, a five pan palette, and a gel eyeliner. I also got samples of their Under Makeup Base and YSM Cream Foundation in shade 43. I haven't tried these yet, but I'll let you know what I think.

Oddly enough, I realized as I was checking out that I bought one of each of their eyeshadow formulas:
  • Matte 352- Pale pink flesh tone color. It's a great dupe for MAC Blanc Type, but Blanc Type is more of a neutral beige. The texture is identical to the Matte 2 formula.
  • Shine 46 - Peachy pink shimmer. The shine textures are meant to be a bit sheer, but the shimmer is very noticeable, so this would work perfectly as a highlight.
  • DS (Double Sparkle) 465 - Medium toned neutral brown with gold glitter. Usually I'm not a fan of glitter in eyeshadows because it usually doesn't transfer well, but this shadow looks just as gorgeous on the eyes as they do in the pan.
  • Pearl 434 - Dark purple-grey color. The texture of this reminds me of Frost eyeshadows by MAC. In fact, 434 looks like a darker version of Satin Taupe.
  • AMC (Advanced Makeup Component) 64 - Very pigmented black with gold glitter. The texture of this is similar to the DS shadow. I was worried it would feel like MAC Beauty Marked, where none of the glitter actually transfers and you just have a glorified matte black. NOT the case with this! I can clearly see the gold glitter in this shadow.
The eyeshadows are all buttery smooth, very easy to work with, all the while retaining excellent pigmentation. I am absolutely AMAZED by Inglot! I'm a convert! As soon as I fill up my MAC 15 palette, I probably wont be purchasing many other shadows from them. The quality of these Inglot shadows are just as good or better, and at a fraction of the cost. What is brilliant about Inglot is the fact that they automatically give discounts on the Freedom System, so the more you buy, the less you pay per product (like Magic Your Way tickets, but that's just the Disney nerd in me talking. LOL!).
  • Face Powders (.46 oz):
    • 1 - $15
    • 2-10 - $13
  • Blushes (.25 oz):
    • 1-3 - $11
    • 4+ - $9
  • Square Eyeshadows (.09 oz):
    • 1-3 - $7/each
    • 4-9 - $5/each
    • 10+ - $4.50/each
  • Circle Eyeshadows/Lip colors/Brow Powders/Concealers (size varies by product):
    • 1-3 - $5/each
    • 4+ - $4.50/each
These all fit snugly in the Freedom System 5 pan palette. This is a perfect travel size palette. They also sell them in 2, 3, 4, 10, 20, and now 40 pan palettes for eyeshadows, as well as 2 more palettes for face powder and blush. The palettes reduce in price by 50%-75% when you add any Freedom system colors in your cart.

Sorry the photo is blurry
Last, but not least, the Matte Collection AMC Eyeliner Gel is easily the best eyeliner I've ever used. It is super pigmented, very soft and glides on so easily. It's a waterproof formula so I didn't need to set it with powder. I also used it on the waterline, and it has not budged. It's amazing!! They have 20 colors available, so you can get this amazing liner in any color you want. They are $12/.19 oz, compared to $15/.1 oz for MAC Fluidline.

Sorry this review was so long! I am just so excited about these products and I will most definitely be purchasing from them again! If you are interested in any of these products, I highly suggest you check them out. They have webstores for the US as well as Australia, and jump at ay chance to visit one of their stores. If you've used any Inglot products, leave a comment letting me know what you think and what your favorites are.
